Hello there, I’m Samah!

I'm a visual storyteller currently based in Victoria, BC. I use my experience in media production, filmmaking, and motion design to create visually engaging stories. I produced stories with equal comfort in Cairo, London, and New York City. The themes that unite my visual interests are movement and our common humanity.

I love making short films as an independent filmmaker. I'm interested in the way we tell stories about our lives. I also have extensive experience as a Media and Communications Specialist; I work mostly with non-fiction media, advocacy video, and digital content production.

In the winter of 2014 I moved to New York City to study Film at The New School. I designed my program to focus specifically on the technical elements of documentary film and broadly on digital cinema. Some of the pieces I’ve shot in New York are under my Short Films tab.

Before my move across the Atlantic, I worked for 9 years and then some, developing content and communications campaigns covering a myriad of environmental, societal, and cultural issues in Egypt. My favorite project was producing media content about Egypt’s most wondrous National Parks and filming with their indigenous communities.

My graduate studies started in London, then moved to New York City, and lastly to Boulder, Colorado where I worked as a doctoral researcher in Media Studies. I looked at mediations of trauma and loss on digital media platforms and in documentary film. I also taught foundation media courses, storytelling, and media activism at University of Colorado Boulder.
